1st Session - 10th October 2024:
- Disciplinary and grievance: This session is designed to help school leaders conduct an appropriate investigation and disciplinary hearing, and understand the different sanctions that employees may be given. We will look into our policy to explore best practice and ensure procedures are fair, and consistent. You will also understand what happens when an employee raises a grievance, how to investigate and the appeals process.
2nd Session - 24th January 2025:
- Safer Recruitment and Selection: This workshop will provide an overview of how to ensure your school’s recruitment and selection processes are compliant with Keeping Children Safe in Education. The course will include a summary of the statutory guidance associated with safer recruitment and selection in schools. There will be an overview of safer recruitment and selection processes and also looking at how to carry out the correct safeguarding checks including online searches.
3rd Session -13th June 2025:
- Capability: This session will enable you to deal with underperformance issues within your school. You will learn to understand the difference between capability and conduct issues and how to deal with them informally and formally.

Trainer: John Kennedy, Senior HMI, maintained schools and academies
John Kennedy is a qualified teacher and has postgraduate qualifications in Education and Philosophy. Following a successful teaching career, John held senior management positions in local authorities. He has particular expertise in the management of behaviour, attendance and safeguarding. John leads inspections of secondary and primary schools, academies and pupil referral units and is currently Ofsted’s education link for Hackney. He has inspected aspects of local authority children’s services.

Ofsted recently unveiled a set of reforms intended to ease the pressures on teachers and school leaders during inspections. These changes, prompted by feedback from educators, aim to uphold the rigour and accuracy of inspections while reducing stress for those involved.
In our upcoming briefing session, John Kennedy HMI will update school leaders on the significant changes Ofsted is implementing following the Big Listen, and any changes arising from the recent change in Government. Key updates from the latest version of the Ofsted Handbook will be highlighted, including the temporary pause on inspections and a renewed emphasis on wellbeing. The session will provide an overview of recent training programs for Ofsted Inspectors, as well as an analysis of published data since the Summer term. We will delve into Ofsted's key focus on starting with impact and working backwards to intent, with particular attention to vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.
